I saw a penny...
As I walked along today...
I glanced at it,a jif....
Then just let it lay...

And I began to think...
Of years of long ago...
When, if I saw a penny then...
It would not lay there, NO!

Find it's way to me...
Then to the country store...
I'd go, as fast as could be...

Because back then, you see...
Penny candy did just cost....

Was sure a lot...
And tasted mighty good...

So was Banana taffy pieces...
And many more kinds, galore
When as a kid I walked...
To the country store.
